LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's tennis team took two of three doubles flights and five of six singles flights to earn a 6-1 victory over hOURglass rival Saint Peter's on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 3-16 (1-6 MAAC), while the Peacocks slip to 1-19 (0-6 MAAC). 

Despite dropping a 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles, the Broncs took the second and third flights to earn the doubles point. Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) and Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) defeated Gabriel Russotto and Cuong Lam, 6-4, at No. 2, while Matthew Begley (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) and Jeremy Van Herwarde (Sussex, NJ/Pope John XXIII) pulled out a 7-5 victory over Douglas Nover and Jonathan Paredes at No. 3. 

In singles, Chris Popso (Florence, NJ/Florence) made quick work of Ivan Knezevic, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1, while Adam Levi (Princeton Junction, NJ/Pennington School) pulled out a three-set victory over Andres-Sebastian Rojas, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2. Gildea defeated Russotto, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4, while Van Herwarde beat Paredes, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5. Clark also breezed past Lam, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6. 

“The men played inspired tennis today,” said Rider Head Coach Doug Potkay. “It was fun to watch. Chris was very focused today and forced his hard-hitting opponent into mistakes.”

Rider wraps up the 2016-17 season Sunday, when it travels to Saint Joseph's. First serve is scheduled for returns to action Friday, when it plays host to Saint Peter's. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
