Hoskova's Career Day Not Enough at Mount St. Mary's

The Broncs fell to the Mountaineers, 82-78, on Saturday

Emmitsburg, MD – Senior Kamila Hoskova (Brno, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka) scored a career-high 32 points, but it was not enough as the Rider University women's basketball team fell on the road to Mount St. Mary's, 82-78, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena.

The Broncs (2-7) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end, while the Mountaineers (2-7) won their second straight home contest.

Trailing by five with three minutes left in the game, Rider rallied to tie it up at 70-70 thanks to a pair of free throws from Hoskova and a three-point play from sophomore guard Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic). Over the final 2:26, Mount St. Mary's outscored Rider, 12-8, thanks to knocking down their free throws.

The Broncs were down by three with 11 seconds left and Hoskova was fouled at the top of the key. After she hit both free throws to pull the team with one at 78-77, The Mountaineers would hit a pair from the charity stripe to hold off the late Rider rally.

Rider and Mount St. Mary's were tied at 17 after the first 10 minutes thanks to the Broncs ending the opening quarter on a 7-2 spurt. In the second quarter, the Broncs shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and hit four shots from beyond the arc to take a seven-point lead at 40-33 into halftime.

The Mountaineers opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take back lead. Rider sophomore guard Stella Johnson put an end to the Mount spurt with an old-fashioned three-point play. Back-and-forth the two squads would go as the hosts took a six-point lead at 56-50 into the fourth following a three-pointer from the wing by Ashlee White.

Offensively, Hoskova led the Rider offensive charge with 32 points on an efficient 11-of-20 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, freshman Jaiden Morris (Richmond, VA/Monacan) scored 11 and Johnson was the other Bronc in double figures with 12 points.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Today was a game that we got outplayed on both ends of the floor. We had a lot of defensive breakdowns in the third quarter and we got out of our offense and took some bad shots. The turnovers we made today were not forced, which is uncharacteristic for us, but cost us a lot of possessions." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan

"We were sloppy on the defensive end all day. Our switches were off. We gave them 11 threes. You're not winning games when you give up 11 three-pointers. We came up short today, but we had a lot of controllable errors that we need to lock in." – Milligan

- In the first quarter, Rider had four assists on six made field goals.
- Rider held Mount St. Mary's without a field goal for the first 3:20 of the second quarter to take back the lead.
- The 40 points at the half were the most for the Broncs this season.
- Rider hit a season-high 10 three-pointers and shot a season-best 55.6 (10-of-18) from beyond the arc.
- The 78 points scored were the most for Rider this season.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Hoskova has scored in double figures a team-high eight times and it was her second game with 23 or more points in a row. She also hit 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Hoskova also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
- Stella Johnson also added four steals, four rebounds and three assists.
- Lexi Stover had a season-high nine points off the bench for Rider thanks to shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range.
- Lexi Posset had seven points and six assists. She tied a season-high with six assists. It was her third straight game with more assists than turnovers.
