PITTSBURGH, PA –
Jordan Allen (Dover, DE/Dover) and
Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Calloway) had 13 points and six rebounds apiece, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at Robert Morris, 78-75, Wednesday night at PPG Paints Arena. With the loss, the Broncs' third-straight, Rider falls to 5-4. Robert Morris improves to 5-4 with the win.
The Broncs played from behind for the majority of the first half, but managed to even the score at 44-44 at the break.
Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) scored 10 of his 12 points in the period. Rider scored the first seven points of the second half and built a lead of as many as eight points in the first six minutes. A pair of Allen three's helped Rider to the cushion. But the Colonials used a 14-0 run covering five-plus minutes to build a 68-60 advantage.
Rider cut the deficit to two on a pair of occasions and Vaughn's three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left made it 76-75 RMU. But following a pair of Robert Morris free throws, Allen's heave from the half court to tie it would not fall.
Quotes & Notes
"We can't guard anybody. It's just as simple as that. We just can't play defense right now. Too many breakdowns. Too many turnovers. We can't keep a guy in front. Our help side's not good. It's just a team effort defensively that's not there."
"We missed Stevie, but injuries are part of the game. When you score 75 points, it's all on the defensive end. We can execute. We can get guys the ball. We got inside. We just turned the ball over too many times. Guys did too many dumb things. It just wasn't a good effort."
