LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) led the Rider University men's basketball team with 19 points, six steals and five assists, but the Broncs fell to Hofstra, 88-82, Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium. The Broncs' fourth-straight loss evens their record at 5-5, while the Pride is now 6-3.
After Hofstra started the game on an 11-2 run, the Broncs gradually whittled away until
Dimencio Vaughn's (New York, NY/Calloway) three-pointer gave Rider its first lead of the game just past the midway point of the half. Back-and-forth the rest of the period, there were a total of 12 lead changes and five ties in the half, which ended with Hofstra holding a 43-41 lead. Both teams shot the ball well in the first half, with the Broncs taking a 55.6 percent (15-27) to 50.0 percent (15-30) advantage.
The Broncs scored 12 of the first 16 points to open the second half, including four points from
Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) and three apiece from
Jordan Allen (Dover, DE/Dover) and Jordan. The teams exchanged the lead multiple times and the game remained tied for the 11
th time on a Jordan lay-up with 6:21 remaining. But Hofstra would score the next nine points and never trailed again. Rider scored the next six points, but could draw no closer.
Quotes & Notes
"Tough one to lose because I thought we played a lot better than we played in the last couple of games. Glad to have Stevie back. Those guys shot the ball really well. Again, we give up 30 points to two players now instead of one. We've got to continue to get better defensively."
"We've got to make free throws, we've got to execute better. But I was encouraged by some things that I saw that I hadn't seen the last couple of games."
