What You Need To Know
- Rider won its season-opener for the second-straight year over Hampton, 90-75, on Friday. Jordan Allen led five Broncs in double figures with 21 points, while Tyere Marshall (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Frederick Scott (15 points, 14 rebounds) compiled double-doubles.
- Allen's 21 points are the most in a Rider freshman debut in at least 22 years, easily besting Stevie Jordan's 14 last season and Bob Fisicaro's 13 in 1995-96.
- Xavier made an impressive run to the Elite Eight last season as an 11 seed before falling to National Runner-Up Gonzaga a game short of the Final Four.
- The Musketeers cruised past Morehead State, 101-49, Friday night. Bluiett led Xavier with 25 points, while Macura added 18. The Musketeers outshot the Eagles, 67.9 percent to 23.7 percent from the floor.
- Rider features a roster with just five of 16 players who took the court for the Broncs last season and just one returning starter in sophomore Stevie Jordan.
- Rider made 14-of-31 three-point attempts against Hampton. The 14 made three-pointers and 31 attempts tied and eclipsed the Broncs' previous highs, respectively, in six years under Head Coach Kevin Baggett.
- RU was picked to finish seventh in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Also picked to finish seventh a year ago, the Broncs finished sixth.
- Jordan was picked to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team after dishing out a league-best 5.6 assists per game as a freshman in 2016-17.
- Sixth-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted an 86-79 record and reached the MAAC Quarterfinals in each of his first five seasons. Baggett was the 2015 MAAC Coach of the Year.
