Volleyball Bests Marist in Poughkeepsie

The Broncs topped the Red Foxes, 3-1, on Saturday

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Rider University volleyball team defeated Marist, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. The Broncs completed earned a split of the regular season series with the Red Foxes thanks to winning scores of 25-20, 25-21, 18-25 and 26-24.  

Rider (14-11, 8-5 MAAC) got off to strong start by taking the first two sets against Marist (11-12, 8-4 MAAC). The Broncs have now won eight of their last 10 matches, while the Red Foxes saw their two-game conference winning streak come to an end.

Offensively, junior Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) had another strong game for Rider with 16 kills. Junior Perry Williams (Portland, OR/Cleveland) chipped in 10 kills for the Broncs, while classmate Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin) added nine of her own and senior Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) contributed eight kills.

Senior setter Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was solid on both sides of the ball for the guests as she stuffed the stat sheet once again. Koval had 46 assists, three kills, one service ace and nine digs. Koval has averaged a double-double over the last five MAAC games.  

Defensively, senior tri-captain Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) played well with 14 digs. With her second dig of the match in the first set, she became the first player in program history to record 2,000 career digs.

Freshman Danielle Blanco (El Paso, TX/Franklin) recorded 10 digs for the guests, while classmate Brynn Sherbert (Temecula, CA/Great Oak) had eight digs for the Broncs and sophomore Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) contributed nine digs.

Notes & Quotes
"I had a gut feeling we were going to play well today," Rider Head Coach Chris Feliciano. "The team made it loud and clear to me in practice this week that they wanted this match. I'm proud of our continued growth not only as a team, but as a family."

- Rider had 52 kills, 61 digs, 12 total blocks and two service aces.
- The win was the first-ever for the Broncs at Marist under Feliciano.   
- The Broncs are 9-9 outside of Lawrenceville this year and 6-6 in true road games. The Broncs have won five of their last six road conference games.  
- The win was the 95th of Feliciano's career.

Broncs by the Numbers
- Koval has had 25 or more assists in 22 matches this season, including 17 straight. It marked the third match in a row that she has recorded 45 or more assists. Koval is now third in program history with 2,846 career assists.
- Riede has now reached double-digits in kills in a match 18 times this fall, including 17 matches in a row. She has a team-best 284 kills in 2017. In conference play, she is averaging 13 kills per match. She is now 10th all-time in Rider history with 903 career kills.
- Aldaya has recorded 10 or more digs in 18 matches this season, including nine times in MAAC play.
- Williams has registered 10 or more kills in a match six times, including three straight matches.
- It was Blanco's ninth match with 10 or more digs.

The Broncs return to action on Sunday, October 29, with a road MAAC match versus Siena that is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
