Niagara Falls, NY – The Rider University volleyball team defeated Canisius, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. The Broncs completed the season sweep of the Golden Griffins with scores of 25-22, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-16. Â
Rider (13-11, 7-5 MAAC) got off to strong start and bounced back from a setback by taking the first two sets against Canisius (7-14, 5-6 MAAC). The Broncs have now won seven of their last nine matches, while the Griffs have dropped two of their last three.
Offensively, junior
Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest)Â Â had another strong game for Rider with 15 kills and a .353 attack percentage. It marked the 12th time this fall that Riede has posted an attack percentage over .300. Senior
Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) chipped in 12 kills, while junior
Perry Williams (Portland, OR/Cleveland) added 11 kills of her own.
Senior setter
Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was solid on both sides of the ball for the guests as she stuffed the stat sheet once again. Koval had 47 assists, five kills, one service ace and six digs. Koval averaged a double-double for the second straight weekend in conference play.
Defensively, senior tri-captain
Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) played well with 24 digs. It was her second straight MAAC game with 24 digs. On the weekend, Aldaya had 48 digs and averaged over five digs per set.
Freshman
Brynn Sherbert (Temecula, CA/Great Oak) had 12 digs for the Broncs and sophomore
Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) contributed nine digs.

"I can't say enough about our team today," Rider Head Coach Chris Feliciano said. "We knew what was at stake today as we approach the end of the season. It was a playoff-type pressure that they handled really well."

Veronica Koval was named the MAAC Player of the Week on Tuesday as announced by the league office. She earned the weekly accolade for the second time this fall. Koval is the only Bronc to receive weekly distinction from the league in the 2017 and she is one of just two players to be tabbed as player of the week more than once. In her final season with the team, she is the only setter within the conference to twice be honored as the MAAC Player of the Week. Â Â Â Â Â
Broncs by the Numbers
- Koval has had 25 or more assists in 21 matches this season, including 16 straight. It marked the second match in a row that she has recorded 45 or more assists.
- Riede has now reached double-digits in kills in a match 17 times this fall, including 16 matches in a row. She has a team-best 268 kills in 2017. In conference play, she is averaging 12 kills per match.
- Aldaya has recorded 10 or more digs in 17 matches this season, including eight times in MAAC play. It was her eighth match with 20 or more digs in 2017.

- Sherbert has posted 10 or more digs in a match 10 times, including three straight matches.
