New Rochelle, NY – The Rider University women's volleyball team spoiled Iona's homecoming as the Broncs defeated the Gaels, 3-1, on Saturday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside the Hynes Center. Rider beat Iona by scores of 25-15, 14-25, 25-18 and 25-19.
The Broncs (11-10, 5-4 MAAC) have now won four of their last five matches, while the Gaels (8-14, 6-4 MAAC) dropped their second straight. Rider completed its regular-season sweep of Iona after scoring a 3-2 victory at home in late September.
Offensively, junior
Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin) lead the Rider attack with 13 kills and a season-best .500 attack percentage. Classmates
Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) and
Perry Williams (Portland, OR/Cleveland) chipped in 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior
Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) added nine kills. In the middle, senior setter
Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had another strong game with 42 assists, nine digs and three total blocks.
Senior tri-captain
Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) had a strong game defensively for Rider, registering a team-best 13 digs. Sophomore
Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) and Koval both added nine digs apiece.
Notes & Quotes
"It's important as the season progresses that the team gets better," Rider Head Coach Chris Feliciano said. "Today we showed true guts as we recovered from a poorly played second set. Coming out of the intermission they were confident and inspired each other to play at a different level."
"I truly believe that this group is scratching the surface on how competitive they can truly be," Feliciano added. "I'm proud of them."
- Rider had 48 kills, 45 digs and seven total blocks. Â
- The Broncs are 6-8 outside of Lawrenceville this year and 3-5 in true road games. Rider has won back-to-back road conference games.
- Rider has won four matches in a row versus Iona. The Broncs have swept the Gaels during the regular season in each of the last two campaigns.
- The win was the 50th conference win for Feliciano. In the 14 years before he arrived the team had 35 MAAC wins, he has won 50th midway through his seventh season with the Broncs. It also marked his 92nd career win as the team's head coach. Â Â Â Â
Broncs by the Numbers
- Koval has had 25 or more assists in 18 matches this season, including 13 straight. It marked the fifth time this season that she has picked up 40 or more assists (two of those games have come against the Gaels).
- Riede has now reached double-digits in kills in a match 14 times this fall, including 13 matches in a row. She has a team-best 230 kills in 2017. In conference play, she is averaging 12 kills per match.
- Aldaya has recorded 10 or more digs in 14 matches this season, including six times in MAAC play.
- Logan has registered 10 or more kills in six times in 2017. Against Iona this season she is averaging 14 kills per match.
- Williams tied a season-high with her 10 kills. She has reached the mark three times this fall. Her .529 attack percentage was also a season-best. It was her third time with a hitting percentage over .300 in 2017.

Perry Williams had one solo block and two block assists.
