LOUDONVILLE, NY – Cyd Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) had a strong showing at No. 1 singles, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at Siena, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 1-6 (0-4 MAAC), while the Saints are now 1-0 (1-0 MAAC).
 
The Saints took the doubles point with three victories, all by 6-1 or 6-2 scores. In singles, Melendez pushed Ivana Boberic at No. 1, but fell, 7-5, 7-5. Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro North) took four games in her No. 3 singles match against Kylie Mullaney, but fell, 6-2, 6-2. The Saints breezed to the victory, dropping just two more games combined in the other four singles matches.
 
"The women's team played a very hard-hitting Siena team," said Rider Head Coach Doug Potkay. "Cyd regained her confidence with her forehand and hit shot for shot with her opponent."
 
The Broncs close out the Fall schedule Tuesday, when they play host to Marist. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
