LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University swimming and diving team closed out the 2016-17 dual-meet season with a sweep of MAAC foe Monmouth University on Tuesday evening at the Coppola Pool inside the Maurer Center on Senior Day. The men remained unbeaten in dual-meet action, topping the Hawks, 133-73, and the women raced past the guests, 112-69.
The men moved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 versus conference opponents, while the women improved to 2-7 on the year and 2-1 against MAAC teams. For the men, it was their 17th dual-meet victory in a row and their seventh of the season. The Broncs winning streak dates back to the 2014-15 season.
For the Rider women, a pair of swimmers won two events apiece. Sophomore
Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) and senior
Ariana Palmer (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) teamed with junior
Julianna Runk (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) and senior
Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.59. Stalnaker also won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.10, while Palmer finished first in the 100 fly (1:00.77).
Other winners for the Broncs included sophomore
Victoria Evans (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) in the 50 free (25.75), freshman
Natalie Carter (Yucaipa, CA/Riverside City/Yucaipa) in the 200 free (1:59.22) and freshman
Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) in the 100 free (54.96). In the diving events, sophomore
Breanne Hatter (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown HS South) won the 1M with a score of 256.87.
The Rider men won every event to put an exclamation point on the final home dual meet of the season. The 200 free relay quartet of senior
Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, MD/Old Mill), sophomore
Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick), senior
William Molloy (Toms River, NJ/ Toms River HS North) and junior
Zack Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) set a new pool record with a time of 1:24.54.
Other winners for the men included, Gibbons in the 100 back (54.12),
William Molloy in the 200 free (1:44.49) and
Zack Molloy in the 50 free (21.06). Senior
Sam Cramer (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) won two events, the 1,000 free (9:58.90) and the 100 free (47.98), while freshman
Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) took first in the 100 fly (51.97). Carey also teamed with sophomore
Brandon Ewer (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point), junior
Ben Smith (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) and senior
Harun Filipovic (Princeton, NJ/Bucknell/Princeton) to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.44.
The Broncs return to action in two weeks, competing in the MAAC Championship at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY. The four-day event begins on Wednesday, February 8, and concludes on Saturday, February 11. The Rider men currently boast the top time in all the relay events and 13 of the 14 individual events.
