St. Francis Brooklyn 6, Rider University 1
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to St. Francis Brooklyn 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
“St. Francis had a whole new team from last year, made up of all international players,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “They were a lot quicker on the court than we were, getting to most every ball that we would hit.”
For Rider, sophomore Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)) won 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.
In doubles play, sophomore Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) teamed up with freshman Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) for a 6-2 victory at second doubles.
“Ryan won his second match in a row,” Potkay said. “He made very few unforced errors. The bright spot was the doubles team of Griffin and Brandon, playing a very aggressive style of doubles.”
Rider travels to Coppin State on September 25.
