Wagner College 7, Rider University 0
STATEN ISLAND, NY—The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match at Wagner College Wednesday afternoon.
“The Wagner team was stronger than last year,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “We played hard and were competitive.”
For Rider (0-1), freshman Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) won eight games at first singles before losing 6-2, 7-6.
“Griffin was up to the challenge at first singles,” Potkay said. “He had opportunities to win second set but the experience of his opponent proved to be the deciding factor.”
Griffin led the second set 5-4 and 6-5 and lost the tiebreaker 7-3 after Wagner's Anatoliy Lashkul tied the set 6-6.
Also for the Broncs, sophomore Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) won five games at third singles before losing 6-2, 6-3.
Both the Rider men's and women's tennis teams host Siena College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Saturday at 1pm.
