Rider's Wolfe 4th at Freestyle Nationals

AKRON, OHIO--Rider University's Ryan Wolfe recently placed fourth in his 213 pound (97kg) weight class at the 2016 University Freestyle Nationals.

Wolfe (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) won six of eight matches.

“We are very proud of the way Ryan wrestled at University Nationals,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor, the 2016 EWL Coach of the Year.  “We believe by him becoming a University Nationals All-American and placing fourth he has taken yet another very important and positive step toward his quest to become an NCAA All-American next year.”

Wolfe pinned Diallo Matsimela of Central Michigan and won by tech fall over Tanner Orndorff of Wolverine Wrestling Club, before losing 4-0 to former NCAA National Champion Kyven Gadson of Iowa State's Cyclone Wrestling.

In the consolations, Wolfe won by two more tech falls, advanced due to injury and won a 6-2 decision before losing in the battle for third place to Blaze Cabell of Panther Wrestling. Cabell was the MAC heavyweight champion last year at Northern Iowa.

Wolfe was 30-10 as a junior last season at Rider, winning his 197 pound weight class at the EWL Championships and was 3-2 at NCAAs, one win away from All-America honors, as an unseeded wrestler.
