LAWRENCEVILLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a non-conference match to Loyola Maryland on Monday afternoon.
The Rider men lost 7-0 and the Bronc women were defeated 7-0.
“The conditions were good for doubles but the winds increased steadily throughout the day,” head coach Doug Potkay said. “It was a learning experience for the players how to adapt to the ever changing conditions.”
For the Bronc women, freshman Caitlin Gardner (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) split the opening two sets at first singles 4-6, 7-6 (1) before losing 10-4 in the tie-breaker.
“Caitlin played a tough three-set match,” Potkay said.
For the Rider men, sophomore Chris Popso (Florence) and freshman Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) won at first doubles 7-5 before Loyola took the team point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
“Brandon and Chris came from behind 3-5 and 40 love to win 7-5,” Potkay said.
The Rider women host Delaware State on Wednesday.
