ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Rider University men's tennis team opened its spring 2016 season with a non-conference loss at the United States Naval Academy on Saturday afternoon.

“We played pretty well considering it was the first match of the spring season,” said head coach Doug Potkay.

For Rider, freshman Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) won six games at third singles before losing 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) won five games at second singles before falling 6-1, 6-4.

“Brandon was up 4-3 in his first set and Diego battled back from a 4-1 deficit,” Potkay added.

The Rider women play at Navy on Sunday.  The Bronc men are back in action on March 6 at Lehigh University.
