LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University senior guard
Robin Perkins (Willingboro, NJ/Trenton Catholic [Saint Francis Univ.]) has been named College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week, the website has announced. Perkins averaged 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0 percent (14-28) from the floor, 46.2 percent (6-13) from long range and 100 percent (4-4) from the free-throw line in the Broncs' first 2-0 start to league play and Western New York sweep in the program's 20 years in the MAAC.
“Robin had a great weekend and played the way a senior captain should on a tough road trip,” said Rider Head Coach
Lynn Milligan. “MAAC games are a battle and this weekend was no exception. Robin rose to the occasion and led her team.”
Perkins started the week with a nine-point effort at Canisius, including five points and the go-ahead three in a decisive 12-0 fourth-quarter run that gave the Broncs the lead for good. She then came out on fire against Niagara, burying her first six field-goal attempts, including four from long range. She scored 22 points in the first half and finished with a career-high 29 on 10-of-15 shooting, 5-of-6 from deep and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. For the season, she's now averaging a team-best 15.6 points per game and shooting a MAAC-leading 85.0 percent from the free-throw line.
The Broncs return action Thursday, when they travel to Lehigh. Tipoff from Stabler Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
