LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match with Fairfield Monday.
For the Rider women, freshman Cyd Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) came back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to win at second singles. She also won at first doubles with sophomore Vanessa Canda (Jersey City/McNair Academic HS).
“Cyd played more consistently and kept the ball deeper,” said Rider head coach Doug Potkay.
Also for the Rider women freshman Amanda Binder (Princeton/West Windsor Plainsboro HS North) lost 6-4, 7-5. “Amanda played extremely well,” Potkay said. “She came from behind in the second set 5-3 to tie the match at 5-5.”
For the Rider men the second doubles team of sophomore Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) and freshman Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) had a chance to win but lost 6-4.
“Second doubles played aggressive and had their chances to win the set,” Potkay said. “It was a tough loss.”
The Rider men host Fordham Wednesday.
