POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Marist College on Sunday.
For the Rider men, freshman Chris Popso (Florence) won five games at second singles before losing 6-3, 6-2 with sophomore Chanton Phan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and sophomore Matthew Begley (Pennington/Hopewell Valley Central) each winning four games respectively, Phan at third singles and Begley at fourth singles.
“Marist is the defending conference champions on the men's side,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “Their experience was too hard to overcome.”
For the Bronc women, Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) had the match of the day as she took her opponent to three sets at second singles, losing 6-4, 5-7, 13-11.
“Michelle is playing extremely well,”” Potkay said. “Her hard work is paying off.”
The Rider women travel to Temple on March 31 and the Bronc men host Sacred Heart on April 2.
