Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

LAWRENCEVILLE—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Fairfield University on Monday afternoon.

“Both teams battled hard,” said head coach Doug Potkay.  “The games were close in both singles and doubles but Fairfield won the points when it counted.”

For the Rider men, freshman Agaazi Berhane (Williamstown) lost his opening set 6-4 at sixth singles before tying his match with a 7-6 (7-4) victory in the second set.  Berhane lost the super tiebreaker 10-7.

“Agaazi once again played an exciting match,” Potkay said.  “He thrilled the crowd with some great shots but came up short in the third set super tiebreaker.”

For the Bronc women, sophomore Kerrin Toner (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) won three sets at second singles before losing 6-2, 6-1.  Toner teamed up with freshman Danielle Scrudato (Califon/Voorhees) at first doubles, losing 8-4.

Both teams travel to Bucknell University for a non-conference match on Thursday.
