Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Fairfield University on Tuesday afternoon.
For the Rider men, freshman Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)) won his third match of the season with a come from behind 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 victory at sixth singles.
“Ryan is on a roll,” said head coach Doug Potkay who saw the Rider rookie win for the third time in a row. “He is outsmarting his opponents with an off pace shot and he also added in some drop shots, lobs and some hard hit plays as well.”
For the Bronc women, sophomore Danielle Scrudato (Califon/Voorhees) was a 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 6-0 winner at third singles, her first victory of the season.
“Danielle showed some power off her forehand,” Potkay said. “She moved her opponent around throughout the match and that helped tired the Fairfield player out.”
Both teams travel to Siena College for a MAAC match on Saturday.
“Both teams were competitive today,” Potkay added. “If Fairfield came in looking for an easy match, they found themselves in a dog fight.”
