LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider men won and the Rider women lost in a meet with Lehigh Saturday afternoon in the Coppola Pool. “Things went very well today,” said Rider head coach Steve Fletcher. “The men won and the women competed a lot better this week.”
For the Rider men (3-0) sophomore Zack Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North) won the 100 free in a pool record time of 46.45, won the 200 free (1:41.86), and swam on the winning 200 Medley Relay and the record-setting 400 free relay.
“Zack broke the record (100 free) set by his older brother (Brian), who was the Rider Athlete of the Year a few years ago (2012-13),” Fletcher said.
Freshman Carter Paules (Emmaus, PA) won both the 100 breast (58.45) and the 200 breast (2:08.60). “Carter is a very talented freshman with a lot of room for improvement,” Fletcher said. “It is exciting to think how good he could be. His times are already fast but he can become much better.”
Junior Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, Md./Old Mill) won the 100 butterfly (51.26) and swam on the winning 200 Medley Relay.
Freshman Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick, NJ) won the 500 free (4:44.28) and swam on the winning 200 Medley Relay.
Freshman Lucas Musselman (Timonium, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the 200 individual medley (1:56.59).
The men's 400 free relay team of junior William Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North), Zack Molloy, Gibbons and Martir won in a pool record time of 3:06.72. “We used our top four sprinters for the first time in this relay and that is why that record fell today,” Fletcher said.
Senior Wayco Bailey (Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS) won the three-meter dive (308.90) and placed second in the one-meter (277.10). Bailey was the MAAC Diver of the Week last week.
Freshman Joseph Warker (Reading, PA/Wilson) won the one-meter dive (291.95) and placed second in the three-meter (287.35).
For the Rider women (1-2) freshman Breanne Hatter (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) won the one-meter dive (209.45) and placed second in the three-meter (144.30).
Senior Virginia Bresko (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip) won the three-meter dive (180.10) and was second in the one-meter (187.50).
“All four of our divers (men and women) achieved personal bests today,” Fletcher said. “Finishing one-two on both boards, they had an outstanding meet.”
Sophomore Tara Maniace (Neptune, NJ) won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.31) and freshman Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 100 backstroke (59.84).
