Rider Cheerleaders Three-Peat
OCEAN CITY, MD—The Rider University Cheerleaders competed in the American Cheer and Dance Academy's Reach the Beach College National Championship April 5-6 in Ocean City Maryland and won the College Co-Ed category for the third straight season.
For the second time in three years Rider was also named Grand Champions in the College Division with the highest overall score.
“This season's motto was 3-peat!,” said Rider head cheerleading coach C.L. Voorhees-Carcaci. “The team really increased the level of difficulty this year on the competition mat. The school spirit component of cheering for Division I basketball is awesome and they love it! But going out and winning at the sport they train in is a great way to showcase their athleticism, dedication and passion for the sport of Cheerleading.”
The Broncs placed first ahead of such teams as SUNY Brockport, Penn State Mont Alto, Widener and Fairleigh Dickinson. “The team knew to keep winning they had to go in better than last year or the year before,” said Voorhees-Carcaci. “Being the defending Champions feels good, but it is also pressure not to settle for less.”
A two day competition with teams performing a routine comprised of Stunts, Tumbling, Jumps, and Dance, the competitors were judged, on degree of difficulty, technique, execution, and synchronization.
“We'd also like to send many thanks to all the families and supporters from area business and the Rider community who helped make it possible for us to attend Nationals,” Voorhees-Carcaci said.
