Philadelphia University 8, Rider University 1
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Rider University women's tennis team lost a non-conference match at Philadelphia University 8-1 on Thursday afternoon.
For Rider, junior Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) won a three-set thriller at second singles, 6-3, 0-6, 10-3.
“Michelle was a star,” said head coach Ed Torres. “She played very, very well. Overall as a team, we kept the rallies alive longer so we are seeing improvement in that area.”
Caravaglio teamed up with Alexandria Extejt (Winnie, Texas/East Chambers) and won seven games at second doubles before falling 9-7.
“I was very happy with how all of the doubles teams played,” said Torres. “Each match was a battle that lasted almost an hour and a half. They were very competitive and a point here and there, Rider could have won all three of them. They were excellent and it was the best doubles they have played all year.”
The Rider men travel to Monmouth for an Hour Glass Rivalry match on Friday afternoon.
The Bronc women are back in action on Saturday for a noon match at Lafayette.
