Broncs 22nd in Nation
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University wrestling team has moved up from 25th to 22nd in the nation in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings.
“We appreciate that the NWCA has recognized the strength of our schedule and quality wins that we have as a team so far this season,” said Rider associate head coach John Hangey.
Rider (5-1, 1-0 EWL) is coming off of a 21-12 win over the University of Pennsylvania and a 38-3 Eastern Wrestling League victory over Clarion.
Rider has also defeated Wisconsin when the Badgers were ranked 19th, and the Broncs placed second at the Keystone Classic.
Rider's only loss this season is to 14th ranked Illinois.
“Moving up to 22nd in the NWCA coaches poll reinforces to our team that hard work does pay off,” Hangey said. “They need to stay hungry and humble as we have many upcoming challenges and aspirations of being ranked in the Top 10.”
The Broncs are led by junior 133 Robert Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional), senior 141 Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway), red-shirt freshman 149 B.J. Clagon (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) and red-shirt freshman 157 Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic).
Deutsch is 8-2 and ranked 19th by InterMat, Zeisloft is 7-3 and is ranked 18th. Clagon is 10-3 with three pins and Walsh is 8-3.
Rider travels to #10 Lehigh Sunday.
