Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

LAWRENCEVILLE—In the 2013 home opener, the Rider University women's tennis team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match against Manhattan College on Saturday afternoon.

“Overall, we had three good singles matches, winning two of them,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “The others, they made too many errors.  Manhattan was just a little steadier in those matches.”

For Rider (0-2, 0-2 MAAC),  junior Alison Noll (Monmouth Junction) won at first singles, 6-3, 6-1 with junior Leonora Paul (Hackensack) victorious at sixth singles 6-1, 6-2.

“Alison played a very good player,” Torres said.  “Alison came to Rider with a lot of experience and quite simply, doesn't make errors.  She keeps the ball alive.  Leonora, she played down at sixth singles.  She doesn't hit the ball as hard but she kept it alive and has really improved her game.”

Manhattan won all three doubles matches.

“On the doubles side, we aren't taking over the net like we should,” Torres said.  “We have to improve more on the volleys and net play.”

The Bronc women are back in action on Monday, September 16 at Saint Peter's for a MAAC match at 3 p.m.
