Rider Opens at Fairfield Today

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The Rider University men's and women's tennis team jump starts its season this afternoon, traveling to Connecticut to take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Fairfield at 2 p.m.

Both the Stag men and women placed runner-up in the MAAC during the 2012-13 season.

The men's side is a mix of experience and youth, with the Broncs adding five freshmen to the roster while returning four seniors.

Rider will be led by senior Rollie Malfitano (Wenonah/Gloucester Catholic), a three-year letterwinner who enters this season as a 63-match veteran.

For the women, Rider returns five juniors and one senior, giving the Broncs experience on the courts this season to help the two freshmen added to the roster.

The Broncs will look towards junior Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) to lead the way this year. As a sophomore, Caravaglio had four wins in singles competition.

Rider opened up last season, also against Fairfield, with both sides losing 7-0.

The women come home to play Manhattan on Saturday, September 14 at 12 p.m.  The men's team opens at home on Wednesday, September 18 when they host Rutgers (Camden) at 3:30 p.m.
