LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Women's Tennis snapped a seven-match losing streak in dominating fashion Friday afternoon, earning a 7-0 shutout victory over the Merrimack Warriors to pick up their first MAAC win of the season.
The afternoon began with a clean sweep of doubles, as Elle Catanzarite and Kashish Kant led the way with a 6-0 victory. Lisa Dierick and Anna Bong clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win, followed by a 6-4 win for Jolie Kaiser and Chloe Monachelli.
Dierick led the way in singles, winning her match 6-1, 6-1. Bong, Catanzarite, and Daniela Naves followed closely behind with straight-set victories of their own. Kaiser's match was the only to be extended to a third set, but ultimately resulted in a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win for the German freshman. After winning the first set 6-0, Kant's match ultimately ended with a withdrawal.
"We tried some different doubles pairings, which allowed us some flexibility, and we saw some good things for those," Head Coach Timothy Koch said following the win. "The important thing…is that now we've won two out of three doubles points in conference matches. So I think the confidence is building."
For the Broncs, it's their first shutout win since defeating Merrimack last February by the same score.
"Sometimes teams that you're expected to win [against] are tougher matches, because you could take the foot off the gas, but I think we executed." Koch said.
Women's Tennis has a quick turnaround, with a home match tomorrow against Sacred Heart.
