3 Broncs All-MAAC

EDISON—The Rider University women's soccer team was picked to finish fourth of 11 teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2013 and three Broncs were named to the Preseason All-MAAC team.

"As with all the other programs, except the first place team, the preseason poll (fourth) is not where we hope to be when November comes around,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome, who has guided the Broncs to a 28-18-9 record over the last three years. “We have a lot of work to do between now and then to accomplish our goals for the season, of finishing with a MAAC Championship.”

Senior Jennifer Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony's), junior Becca Kape (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and sophomore Tara Ballay (Delran, NJ/Delran) begin the 2013 season with All-MAAC honors.

“It is nice for Becca, Jenn and Tara to be recognized by the MAAC for their past performances and a positive reflection for our soccer program and athletic department,” Hounsome said

Meier was a First Team All-MAAC midfielder last year and enters her senior year fifth at Rider in career goals and points. Meier is expected to move back to the forward position this year.

Kape was a 2011 Preseason All-MAAC defender before red-shirting that season. Kape was on the MAAC All-Rookie team in 2010.

Ballay was the MAAC Rookie of the Year last season and ranked seventh in the MAAC in points per game. Ballay is expected to play more of a defensive role this year.

Fairfield is picked to finish first, followed by Marist and new conference member Monmouth.

Rider finished tied for fourth in the MAAC last year and overall (10-4-3) enjoyed it highest winning percentage (.676) in program history.

The MAAC has 11 teams with the addition of Monmouth and Quinnipiac. All 11 teams will compete for the MAAC Title at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney Resorts in Orlando, FL.

The season begins with a pair of games in August, at Bucknell August 23 and at home against Bryant August 30.  The first MAAC game is Saturday, September 21, hosting Siena at 1pm.

Preseason Poll: 1. Fairfield, 2. Marist, 3. Monmouth, 4. Rider, 5. Niagara, 6. Siena, 7. Iona, 8. Quinnipiac, 9. Canisius, 10. Manhattan, 11. Saint Peter's
