Men's College Tennis
Philadelphia University 4, Rider University 3
LAWRENCEVILLE—For the second match in a row, the Rider University men's tennis team lost by the slimmest of margins, falling 4-3 to Philadelphia University on Thursday afternoon.
This was the best match we've played all season,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We were missing our number two singles player with an injury and it was still that close.”
For Rider, senior Drew Laverty (Mount Royal/Kingsway Regional) won 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 at second singles, senior Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) was a 7-5, 7-6 (3) winner at third singles and senior Matt DiMartino (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) won 6-4, 6-1 at fourth singles.
“They (Philadelphia) were just a little bit steadier,” Torres added. “Philly U has a very good team and we hung right in there.”
This was the final home match of the spring 2013 for the Bronc men.
Rider travels to Marist for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Sunday.
