LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon on the campus courts in Lawrenceville.

Rider's only win came at sixth singles via injury default.

"NJIT had more experienced players," said head coach Ed Torres.  "They played a steadier match, hit the ball a little harder and made fewer errors."

For the Broncs, junior Nick Lubold (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) won three games at fifth singles before losing in straight sets.

"Nick is primarily a doubles player but is also a pretty good singles player too," said Torres.  "He hits the ball, volleys well and has a decent serve."

Rider (0-2) travels to Sparkill, New York to face St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.

"We played them two years ago and defeated them in a close match," Torres added.  "I expect that we will do well after facing some pretty tough competition so far by playing Fairfield and NJIT.  I expect the team to continue to improve."
