BUIES CREEK, NC-The Broncs banged out 10 hits but lost to Campbell Wednesday evening. "It's like a broken record," said Rider head coach Barry Davis. "We're doing good things but we're not doing enough. We need to play a full nine innings."
Campbell (15-3) scored three runs in the sixth inning on four hits and two Rider errors to take a 6-3 lead, and added three more runs in the seventh on three hits to take a 9-3 lead.
Rider (5-9) sophomore Jerry Mulderig (Langhorne, PA/Council Rock South) hit a two-run single to tie the score at 3-3 in the sixth inning. "That was a big hit by Jerry," Davis said. "It got us back in the game."
Mulderig came in off the bench on Tuesday and hit a double and a triple. "Jerry's doing a good job," Davis said. "He's swinging a hot bat."
The Camels took a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning on a single, balk, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore Ken Kremer (Hershey, PA/Hershey) hit an RBI double in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1. Kremer also doubled in the first inning.
Freshman Justin Thomas (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) singled in the first inning and again in the sixth.
Sophomore Nick Crescenzo (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) singled in the third inning and again in the seventh inning.
Graduate student Ryan Murphy (Yardville, N.J./Steinert) hit a pinch-hit double in the eighth inning.
Freshman Mike Parsons (Liverpool, NY) and senior Brandon Cotten (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) also collected hits for Rider.
Rider junior pitcher Tim Hogan (Gibbstown/Gloucester Catholic) stated and allowed three earned runs in five innings of work, striking out three. "Tim threw fine after a shaky start," Davis said.
Campbell scored two unearned runs without a hit in the first inning on two hit batsman, two stolen bases and a Bronc error.
The Camels have now won their last 10 games. "We're playing some good teams on this trip," Davis said, "Teams that are playing well."
Rider travels to Rock Hill, South Carolina to take on Winthrop University in a three game series beginning Friday night. "Winthrop is traditionally a great program," Davis said. "They play a tough schedule and they're getting ready for their conference, as we are. This is the final tune up before conference play for both of us."
