Rider's Cottam Again Academic All-American
LAWRENCEVILLE--For the second year in a row Abi Cottam of the Rider University women's soccer team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.
Cottam is the lone repeat selection on the Capital One Academic All-America Division I First Team.
"It is a great achievement to be honored as an Academic All-American, but to be honored two years in a row is quite remarkable," said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.
Cottam earned First Team Academic All-America honors last year, the first Rider athlete to be so honored since 1995.
Cottam, a senior from Leominster, England, was named to the First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference soccer team the last two years and to the MAAC All-Academic team the last three years.
In the classroom Cottam owns a 3.99 grade point average as a Psychology major.
As a senior Cottam led the conference in assists and was fifth in the MAAC in points per game and 10th in goals, leading Rider to its best record (10-4-3) since 2004.
"As one of our international student-athletes we are very proud of what Abi has achieved in the classroom and on the field during her four years in the USA," Hounsome said. "I hope she has a big enough bag to get all these awards back to England!"
Rider's career leader in assists with 26, her 1.25 career points per game average is also a Rider record. Cottam's 26 career goals and her 78 career points are both third most ever at Rider.
As a junior Cottam led the MAAC in goals (14), assists (11) and points (39).
