PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The University of Pennsylvania Quakers won seven of ten matches to defeat the Rider University Broncs in a non-conference wrestling dual at the Palestra Sunday afternoon.

"Penn has a good team and they out-wrestled us, that's the bottom line," said head coach Gary Taylor.  "We battled in a lot of spots and were competitive but they (Penn) were certainly better on this day."

For Rider (4-4), sophomore 125 Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) won for the 14th time this season, recording a 5-1 decision to open the match.  "We expected Chuck to win and he did," Taylor said.

Penn won the next three bouts before red-shirt sophomore Ramon Santiago (Sayreville) notched a 7-1 decision at 157, his 10th victory of the season, cutting the Quaker lead to 10-6.

Junior Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest), ranked 13th in the nation at 174, won a hard-fought 4-1 decision to improve to 14-2 on the season, bringing the Broncs to within 13-9.  Resnick was 3-0 this weekend, including wins over Harvard and Brown Friday night.

"We did pretty much what we expected to do with Ramon and Jimmy winning their bouts," said Taylor.  "It was good to get Resnick back on the mat after being injured and he is getting better and stronger for us."

Penn won the final three bouts by decision for the final score.

"Penn just out-wrestled us," Taylor added.  "This being our third dual of the weekend (Rider lost to Harvard and defeated Brown Friday night) had no factor and would take away from what Penn was able to do.  They wrestled well and got the job done."

Penn (3-4) defeated Rider 23-18 in Lawrenceville last season and 21-15 in Philadelphia in 2009-10 and the Quakers improved to 5-0 all-time against the Broncs.

Rider travels to the 32nd Virginia Duals January 13-14 in Hampton.

"The Virginia Duals are a major tournament," Taylor added.  "All we can do is get back to work and get a little healthier in some areas.  Sometimes you go through a rough patch, that's all part of sports.  We are seeing where we need to improve with each individual and go from there.  We have some young kids and we will just keeping working at this."
