College Wrestling Rider at VA Duals

Rider 19, Drexel 18

North Carolina 18, Rider 15

HAMPTON, VIRGINIA---The Broncs are competing at the 32nd Virginia Duals National College Tournament Friday and Saturday. "Our young wrestlers are starting to come along," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "That's nice to see."

On Friday Rider lost 18-15 to North Carolina before defeating Drexel 19-18. On Saturday at 10am the Broncs will take on the loser of tonight's Kent State-Buffalo match.

Sophomore Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway), freshman Jimmy Morris (Northport, NY/St. Anthony's), freshman Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and junior Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest) all won twice on Friday.

Morris came from behind in both of his matches for victories. "That showed a lot of heart," Taylor said.

Against Drexel, a tech fall by Resnick gave Rider a 15-12 lead. Freshman Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) followed with a major decision for the deciding points of the match.

"I was impressed by all three of our freshmen (Morris, Brennan and Morrison) today," Taylor said. "Chuck and Connor both had a good day as well. Clint did a nice job in that second match. That win was real important. He too is not 100 percent healthy but he's getting better, both in health and in his wrestling."

Against the Tar Heels, each team won five bouts but a Tar Heel pin was the difference.

Zeisloft and Morris won to give Rider a 6-0 lead. Brennan picked up his first collegiate win to give Rider a 9-3 lead.

Resnick, ranked 13th in the nation, won to tie the score at 12-12. "Jim still is not 100 percent healthy but he wrestled hard," Taylor said. "He's plugging through and getting the job done, helping his team out."

Sophomore Evan Craig (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) won at heavyweight for the final score.

"We're battling," Taylor said. "We're still not at full strength but we're doing everything in our power to keep winning as much as we can. It is a real battle down here."
