CAMDEN--The Rider University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep at Division III Rutgers Camden Sunday afternoon.
"We played well," said head coach Ed Torres. "Rutgers Camden has a relatively new team and we had more experience. We played well and any win is a good win."
For Rider (1-2), senior Tricia Ashmore (Sparta) won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and teamed up with junior Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) for an 8-0 win at first doubles. Roche also won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.
"The win feels good," said Ashmore. "Hopefully we can keep it going as the season progresses."
Also for the Broncs, freshman Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) won at third singles (6-0, 6-0) with senior Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) winning at fourth singles, also by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Caravaglio and White teamed up for an 8-0 win at
second doubles.
Sophomore Kim Leder (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) won at fifth singles (6-1, 6-1) with senior Maria Eldridge (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) posting a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Eldridge and junior Jaclyn Giameo (Roselle Park) won 8-1 at third doubles.
Rider hosts Monmouth on Tuesday at 3:30pm on the Lawrenceville campus courts.
