Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept in a Metro Atantic Athletic Conference match at Fairfield Wednesday afternoon.

For the Rider women (0-2, 0-2 MAAC), junior Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) won seven games at number one singles before losing 6-4, 6-3.

"Fairfield was the runner-up in the MAAC last year and return a very strong team," said head coach Ed Torres. "Marly (Roche) played the best match of the day on the women's
side."

For the Rider men (0-2, 0-1 MAAC), the number two doubles team of freshman Steve Brand (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and junior Drew Laverty (Mount Royal/Kingsway Regional) put up a battle before losing 8-3.

"On the men's side, Fairfield just over powered us," said Torres. "They hit big shots and forced us into errors. The number two doubles of Brand and Laverty, even though they lost 8-3, they really battled and played well. They forced a lot of games to deuce."

The Rider men host Rutgers Camden on Friday at 3pm on the campus courts in Lawrenceville.
