PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost at Division II Chestnut Hill College on Thursday afternoon.
For the Rider men, junior Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) teamed up with junior Milo Milosovici (Florence) for an 8-6 win at third doubles. Carpenter took his sixth singles match to three sets (2-6, 6-4) before losing 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker.
"The match went well on the men's side for the doubles teams," said head coach Ed Torres. "The teamwork was very good. On the singles side, the points were played evenly but Chestnut Hill played a little steadier and won the points that really counted."
Also for the Bronc men, the second doubles team of junior Drew Laverty (Mount Royal/Kingsway Regional) and freshman Steve Brand (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) won 9-7.
"I took a little while longer to warm up than I would have liked," said Carpenter about his singles match. "I came out on top in the second set. I started out 4-1 but was able to take the set and the third was a battle but I didn't get it done. We're taking steps as a team and are playing closer matches but we need to focus more on some of the bigger points."
For the Rider women, sophomore Kim Leder (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) took her sixth set singles match to a third set tiebreaker before eventually falling 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
"On the women's side, we made a ton of errors," Torres said. "We can play better than we did on both the singles and doubles side."
The Rider men host New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday at 11am on the Lawrenceville campus courts.
