LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match against the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville.

"We ran into a team that was a little more experienced," said head coach Ed Torres, in his 15th season at Rider.  "We battled through a very windy day and gave it our all.  NJIT made less errors than we did."

For Rider, the third doubles team of juniors Milo Milosovici (Florence) and Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) won 8-6 for their third win in a row.

"Our doubles teams have been playing well this fall," Torres said.  "They have played much better than the individual singles play.  The doubles teams this year are among the best that I've ever had at Rider, top to bottom and they are only going to get better."

Also for the Broncs, junior John Spellman (Toms River/Toms River HS South) won five games before losing in straight sets at fifth singles.

NJIT also defeated Rider 7-0 in the fall of 2010 in a match played in Montclair, New Jersey.  The Highlanders defeated the Broncs 7-0 in the spring of 2010 in Lawrenceville.

The Rider men travel to Wagner for a non-conference match Monday at 3pm.

The Bronc women travel to Saint Peter's for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Tuesday at 2:30pm.
