BALTIMORE, MD- The Broncs saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss at Loyola Saturday night. "It is very encouraging that we played well," head coach Charlie Inverso said, "but very discouraging that we lost. We just have to keep searching for positives."
Loyola (8-4-1, 3-2 MAAC) scored 14 minutes into the game. "The first 20 minutes was all them," Inverso said.
Rider out-shot Loyola 11-6, including 8-2 in the second half. "The second half was all us," Inverso said. "We just didn't do enough to make things stand up. We couldn't get a goal."
Both teams had three shots on goal.
The Greyhounds won their third straight game. "This was a good team we played," Inverso said. "Traditionally if not the best then certainly one of the best teams in the conference, year in and year out. We're just getting tired of 'moral victories'."
Loyola has allowed just 11 goals in its first 13 games.
Rider (3-9-1, 2-3 MAAC) junior goalkeeper Matt Perrella (North Brunswick, N.J./N. Brunswick) made two saves.
Rider also lost 1-0 to Loyola last season in Lawrenceville.
Rider and Loyola have now met 27 times since the series began in 1946, with Rider winning six, the last time in 2004. Rider defeated Loyola in the 1997 MAAC Championship Game. The two teams tied in 1981.
The Broncs host Niagara Friday night at 7pm on the Ben Cohen Field. "Next weekend will be a big weekend for us," Inverso said.
