Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

LAWRENCEVILLE-The Rider University women's tennis team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Manhattan on Saturday in the 2010 fall conference opener.

"Manhattan played just a little steadier than we did," said head coach Ed Torres about the MAAC opener.  "The players who make more errors are going to lose their match and the Manhattan players made fewer errors."

The Jaspers swept the Broncs 7-0.

For Rider (0-2), senior Mallory Garbaravage (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands Regional) won the opening set at number three singles before losing in three sets.

"Mallory played a very good match," Torres said.  "She actually had match point two times.  She won the first set 6-0 and led 5-4 in the second set before losing 7-5 and dropping the third set tie breaker."

Sophomore Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) won eight games at number two singles before falling in straight sets.

Junior Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) and sophomore Jaclyn Giameo (Roselle Park) teamed up to win four games at number three doubles.

"Manhattan had a little bit more experience but we played hard and we come right back tomorrow (Sunday) against Delaware State," Torres added.

Rider hosts Delaware State on Sunday at noon.
