Rider Partners with SMA for Licensing of Athletic Merchandise
Lawrenceville, NJ - Rider University has entered into a licensing agreement with Strategic Marketing Affiliates (SMA), Director of Athletics Don Harnum announced.
Through its affiliation with SMA, Rider will now participate in a licensing program that oversees the use of its trademarked primary and secondary athletics logos and wordmarks on a variety of items. SMA will also work to promote, protect, profit and preserve the Department of Athletics' brands by authorizing, in partnership with Rider, the use of its logos on merchandise carried by various vendors.
"We are excited to have established this relationship with SMA to grow our trademark licensing program and enhance the image of our brand in the marketplace," said Karin Torchia, associate director of athletics for external operations and development/senior women's administrator. "This new agreement helps us determine the best direction for our brand management program while using SMA's technology and resources to ensure compliance with the implementation."
Any person, organization or corporation wishing to manufacture a product (i.e. apparel, gifts, equipment, etc.) bearing or containing any of the marks of the Rider Department of Athletics or wanting to provide a service that will use the marks must enter into a licensing agreement that authorizes the use of those marks.
Only officially licensed and approved vendors, also known as licensees, may produce items bearing the logos or wordmarks of Rider University Athletics. Those wishing to become licensed and produced such items can obtain an application by contacting SMA. Any questions regarding the application and/or approval process should be directed to SMA.
Upon approval as a licensed vendor, licensees can access the correct logos and wordmarks for Rider University Athletics via SMA's Logos on Demand (LOD) system. LOD is the premier, web-based digital asset fulfillment system available today and creates unparalleled service to the licensee so they can produce products more accurately and efficiently than ever before. Additionally, SMA offers licensees assistance with submissions of artwork while they familiarize themselves with the process using Logos on Demand.
Product designs must be submitted into the Approvals on Demand (AOD) on-line artwork approval system for review prior to production. Items bearing the trademarked logos or marks of Rider University Athletics without a license may be considered counterfeit and subject to legal action, including, but not limited to seizure of the items. Additionally, licensed vendors who fail to submit designs for approval prior to production may have their license revoked.
