Thompsons Terrific

The Thompson brothers are having a good week on the basketball court.

Rider University senior Ryan Thompson is competing at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament April 7-10, where 64 of the best college players are invited to participate in a four-day, twelve game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.

On Wednesday Thompson (Mt. Laurel, NJ Lenape High School) led his team to victory with a game-high 37 points, making 14 of 20 field goal attempts, including four of five three-pointers, made all five of his foul shots and compiled four assists, four steals and three rebounds in a game-high 33 minutes played.

On Thursday, Jason Thompson '08 led his Sacramento Kings to victory with 22 points, a game-high 15 rebounds and three assists. Jason made 10 of 20 shots from the field and two of three foul shots and played a game-high 42 minutes.

Jason had 18 points on April 3 at Portland and 18 points, 11 rebounds at Indiana March 30.

Ryan was twice a First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection. As a senior Ryan scored a MAAC-high 566 points this season, averaging 17.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 36.6 minutes played per game.

Ryan graduates in May with 1,879 career points, fourth highest ever at Rider, 393 career assists, sixth most ever at Rider and 734 career rebounds, seventh most ever at Rider.

Ryan is the only Bronc to rank in the top 10 in all three categories; career points, assists and rebounds.

Jason has played in 154 NBA games, averaging 30 minutes played per game, and is averaging 11.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for his professional career.

At Rider Jason is the career record holder for rebounds (1,171) and blocks (232) and is third in career points (2,040). He was one of just 96 Division I players ever to compile BOTH 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
