Two Broncs MAAC All-Academic Honors

FLUSHING, N.Y.--The Rider University men's tennis season came to an end in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tennis championships, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

"Fairfield is a little stronger than we are," said head coach Ed Torres.  "They are the second seed and had more experience than we did.  They played a pretty consistent match."

For Rider (3-18, 0-6 MAAC), junior Rob Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) won in straight sets at sixth singles 6-2, 6-3.

"Rob, throughout the season, has really improved," Torres added.  "He got better and better during the year.  As the season progressed, he serve got better, he was volleying better and he made a conscious effort to improve his game."

The Stags defeated Rider 7-0 on March 28 in Connecticut.

Seniors Alex D'Amico (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) and Marc Ashed (Vineland) earned MAAC All-Academic honors for compiling a grade point average over a 3.20.

D'Amico, a three-time Andrew J. Rider academic honoree (top one percent of his school and class), graduates with a degree in Entrepreneurial Studies and has compiled a 3.90 g.p.a., with Ashed compiling a 3.22 grade point average as a Political Science major.

Rider returns eight letterwinners for the fall of 2010.
