Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LAWRENCEVILLE-Battling 40 degree weather and windy conditions, both the Rider men's and women's tennis teams lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Niagara on Saturday.
"Both of their teams have improved since last year," said head coach Ed Torres about the Niagara team that placed in the top three in the conference last season. "We ran into two teams that have more seasoning so far this season then we do and are more experienced."
For the Rider men, junior Rob Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) won at sixth singles 6-1, 6-0.
"Rob played really well today," Torres said. "He has improved his singles play from last year. He is in his third year and has progressed year by year. He played well and only made a few errors."
For the Bronc women, senior Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley Regional) and sophomore Allison Clay (East Brunswick) teamed up for a 8-7 (2) win at second doubles.
Sophomore Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) won seven games at sixth singles before losing 6-2, 7-5.
Rider travels to Connecticut to take on Fairfield in a MAAC match on Sunday.
"We are going to be going up against the team that made it to the finals last year," Torres said about the Stags. "It is going to be another tough day tomorrow, but it is good experience. Win or lose the experience of these matches is a good thing. We need the experience and the playing time. By getting that we hope to continue to improve."
