LAWRENCEVILLE--The Broncs lost to the two-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions Thursday in the first match of the spring season. "Marist is very good," said Rider head coach Ed Torres. "And besides being very good they have a lot of tennis under their belts. They've been playing indoors."
For the Broncs, the third doubles team of freshman Drew Laverty (Mount Royal/Kingsway Regional) and junior Chris Esposito (Ocean Grove/Neptune) won 8-6. "They played very well," Torres said. "They make up a very good team. They both go to the net well. They have quick reflexes and they are good on the volley. They beat an excellent doubles team."
Rider hosts Niagara Saturday. "We played the best team in the league the first match and now we'll play the second best team Saturday and the third best team Sunday (Fairfield)," Torres said, "so we'll see what happens. You do the best you can, play as hard as you can and you improve your game."
