Manhattan College 5, Rider University 2
FLUSHING, N.Y.-The Rider University women's tennis team opened the 2010 spring schedule with a loss to Manhattan College at the United States Tennis Center in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
"For the first match of the spring season, we did pretty good," said head coach Ed Torres. "Manhattan had a pretty decent team and are very strong at the top of the line up."
For Rider, sophomore Tricia Ashmore (Sparta) won at third singles (6-1, 6-1) with sophomore Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) winning 6-2, 6-4 at sixth singles.
White and junior Mallory Garbaravage (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands Regional) teamed up to win 8-5 at third doubles.
"We battled through some windy conditions," Torres added. "It wasn't cold but the wind didn't help either team. The conditions were tough."
The Rider men host Marist in a MAAC match on Thursday on the Lawrenceville, New Jersey campus.
