PRINCETON—The Rider University women's basketball team lost to cross-town rival Princeton University at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game.

For Rider (0-6), junior Sarah Homan (Upper Darby, Pa./Delco Christian) and freshman MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) each had nine points with McKenzie also adding nine rebounds.

Princeton (5-2) jumped out to an 11-2 lead before back to back layups by sophomore Dior Brown (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and Homan cut the Tiger lead to 13-6.  D. Brown had four points and five rebounds in 29 minutes of play.

“Offensively, we got the looks we wanted but didn't make our shots,” said head coach Lynn Milligan who saw the Broncs shoot 30 percent (18-61) to 49 percent for the Tigers (34-70).  “We attacked early, got the shots we wanted but they didn't drop for us.”

Princeton scored 24 of the next 35 points, opening up a 37-15 lead with 3:26 left before the half and the Tigers led 42-22 at intermission.

Princeton scored 12 straight to start the second half and led 54-22 with 16 minutes left in the contest.  Leading 58-26, the Tigers went on a 13-5 run to open up a 40 gap over the Broncs with 8:47 remaining.

Two free throws by sophomore Shereen Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) cut the deficit to 34 with 5:27 left.  Lightbourne finished with six points in 31 minutes.

The Tigers held a 49-33 advantage on the boards.

Rider shot 0-8 from three-point range, breaking a 104 game three-point field goal streak.  Rider went 0-13 at Siena on January 29, 2007 from three-point range.

Princeton has won three straight over the Broncs and lead the all-time series 20-8.

The Broncs have lost six straight and 10 in a row dating back to last season.

“The bottom line is that Princeton has a very strong team,” Milligan added.  “We have to come out and play more consistent, no matter whom we are playing.”

Rider hosts Fordham on Wednesday at 5:30pm as part of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader in Alumni Gym.  The men host Maryland Baltimore County at 7:45pm.
