EMMITSBURG, Md.-Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept in a non-conference match at Mount St. Mary's Sunday afternoon.
"Mount St. Mary's has a very good team," said head coach Ed Torres. "At every position, they were a bit steadier. They made fewer errors. We played some good points but in the long run, MSM was just a little bit better."
For the Rider men, freshman Rollie Malfitano (Wenonah/Gloucester Catholic) won six games at first singles before losing 6-4, 6-2.
"Rollie had a good match," Torres said. "His opponent is a very good player and Rollie hung with him and played some solid points. Rollie traded some big ground strokes but his opponent was just a little more experienced. The games were all close and it was a good match."
For the Rider women, sophomore Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) won seven games at the second singles before losing 7-5, 6-2.
Rider plays its final match of the 2010 fall season when both the men's and women's teams travel to Philadelphia to face Drexel on October 26.
