LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Siena College on Saturday.
For the Rider men, sophomore Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) teamed up with senior Chris Esposito (Ocean Grove/Neptune) to win 9-8 at second doubles. Carpenter took his sixth singles match to three sets before losing 10-5.
Also for the Bronc men, sophomore Milo Milosovici (Florence) and senior Rob Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) won 8-6 at third doubles to clinch the point for Rider.
"We played very, very well on the men's side in the doubles," said head coach Ed Torres. "The key was that they have kept the same partner the last few matches and overall, they have improved their play."
Olsen won four games at fifth singles before losing in straight sets.
"On the singles side for the men, Siena was a little more experienced," said Torres. "Ryan Carpenter had a good match. He is serving very well and is serving with consistency. He is also making less errors than last year. He is a hard hitter and with a year of collegiate experience, he is becoming a more steady player."
For the Rider women, sophomore Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) took her second singles match to three sets before losing 10-4. "Marly was consistent today," said Torres. "She can either keep the ball in play or go for that 'put away' shot. If you give her a short ball, she is going to go after it and end the point. Her offensive game is steady and she is tough to beat."
