Temple University 7, Rider University 0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.?The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match at Temple Tuesday afternoon. “Temple has a good team,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We had a few issues with guys getting hurt and retiring due to sore elbows because of the cold.”
For the Broncs, sophomore Christopher Esposito (Ocean Grove/Neptune) at third singles and junior Alex D'Amico (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) (sixth singles) each won two games.
D'Amico had the unique experience of playing former Rider teammate Josh Rultenberg who transferred to Temple following the Fall 2008 semester.
“It was nice for D'Amico to play today,” Torres said. “This was his first career start and it capped a pretty good couple of weeks for him. I took him on as a walk-on and every year, he has gotten better and better. He made a good showing and worked hard for every shot.”
Last week, D'Amico was elected to his second term as treasurer of the Rider Student Government Association (SGA). This past fall, D'Amico was named an Andrew J. Rider scholar, an academic award earned by being in the top one percent of your class.
Rider played without two of its regular starters due to academic commitments.
Both the men's and women's teams host Philadelphia University on Saturday.
